Bulgaria expands electric transport with Czech bus and train deliveries

Bulgaria is advancing its public transport modernization through significant procurement of electric vehicles from Czech manufacturers.

In Ruse, a contract was signed for the delivery of eight new electric buses and supporting charging infrastructure. The agreement was reached between Municipal Transport Ruse and Biofrog CZ, with Czech manufacturer SOR Libchavy serving as a subcontractor. This follows previous deliveries of 20 electric buses and 15 trolleybuses to the city. The project aims to improve urban environments and create a sustainable transport link between Ruse and Giurgiu by 2026.

Separately, the Škoda Group has completed the delivery of twenty four-car electric train units for Bulgaria’s regional and suburban rail networks. The units, commissioned by the Bulgarian Ministry of Transport and Communications, have received necessary approvals from the IAJA and are registered in the European Vehicle Register. This project, valued at approximately half a billion euros, includes a 15-year service agreement provided by Škoda Group within Bulgaria.
