Bulgaria F-16 fighter jet delivery delayed until 2030
The delivery of the second batch of eight F-16 Block 70 fighter jets to Bulgaria has been delayed until the second quarter of 2030. Lockheed Martin informed Bulgarian Defense Minister Dimitar Stoyanov that production difficulties have caused this setback.
While the 2030 date is not final, Lockheed Martin stated they will take all possible actions to accelerate production. Minister Stoyanov emphasized that it is crucial for Bulgaria that the delay is minimized and does not result in additional financial burdens or increased contract costs.
Regarding the first eight F-16 Block 70 aircraft, the Ministry aims to have them included in combat duty as early as next year. Stoyanov also highlighted the need for sufficient spare parts, maintenance components, and trained pilots, noting that Bulgaria has inquired with the United States regarding the acquisition of used F-16 aircraft to support air force capabilities in the interim.
