Bulgaria faces widespread bomb threats targeting public institutions

Bulgaria has experienced a widespread wave of bomb threats targeting various public institutions, including schools, kindergartens, hospitals, courthouses, and government buildings. The threats, which were primarily delivered via email, triggered evacuations and security alerts in numerous cities across the country, including Sofia, Burgas, Plovdiv, Varna, and Haskovo.

In the Haskovo region, authorities reported 13 separate threats. Some messages included threats of knife attacks and were sent by an individual or entity identifying as ‘Vilayat Miocynistan’. While the name has been noted, Bulgarian officials have not confirmed if it represents a legitimate terrorist organization.

Law enforcement and emergency services conducted extensive searches at the targeted locations. As of the latest reports, no explosive devices have been found, and most institutions, such as the Burgas Courthouse, have since reopened to staff and the public.
