Bulgaria food market: Rising tomato prices and retail discounts
Market data in Bulgaria shows varying trends for seasonal produce and consumer goods. Wholesale tomato prices rose by 28.6% compared to the previous year, reaching an average of 1.35 EUR per kilogram in mid-September. This increase is linked to a 35.1% decrease in open-field tomato cultivation areas and a 23.6% drop in harvested quantities. Conversely, pepper production has seen a slight increase of 1.2%, with wholesale prices for green and red peppers trending lower than last year.
In the retail sector, Lidl Bulgaria has launched a promotional campaign running from October 12 to November 8, offering discounts of up to 50% on 100 essential food and non-food items. The sale includes significant price reductions on dairy products, meat, pasta, and preserves, such as lyutenitsa.
