Bulgaria: Former Interior Minister calls for probe into arms factory explosions

Former Interior Minister Valentin Radev has called for urgent investigations into a series of fires and explosions at weapons manufacturing facilities in Bulgaria. He emphasized that authorities should not wait for a third incident involving casualties before taking decisive action.

Radev noted the presence of the State Agency for National Security (DANS) and the Specialized Unit for Combating Terrorism at the scenes, suggesting that investigators are exploring the possibility of external interference. He highlighted a pattern of incidents involving the company Emko, including a 2015 attempt to poison its leadership, and questioned why such security issues are not observed at other major companies in the sector.
