Bulgaria hospitality rules: POS terminals mandatory for 2-star venues
Under the Tourism Act, dining and entertainment establishments rated with two or more stars in Bulgaria are required to maintain POS terminals for cashless payments. This regulation has been in effect since March 1, 2024.
Gabriela Rumenova, founder of the online platform ‘Nie, potrebitelite’, noted that while other commercial entities are not legally obligated to provide cashless options, retailers should clearly display any minimum purchase requirements for card payments. Failure to do so can lead to consumer frustration when they discover restrictions only at the checkout.
Additionally, Rumenova highlighted that food pavilions along coastal promenades are legally required to list prices per 100 grams. Consumers should account for this when comparing costs, as standard restaurant-sized portions can result in higher final totals than expected.
