Bulgaria implements stricter controls on Argentine sunflower imports

Bulgarian Minister Plamen Abrovski has defended the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) regarding the oversight of food imports, specifically addressing the controversial entry of sunflower seeds from Argentina. Abrovski stated that the previous caretaker government under Andrey Gyurov set a precedent by allowing these imports, a move he claims other EU member states resisted.

To address concerns over food quality and safety, Abrovski announced that new strict procedures are in place. This includes the sealing and tracking of shipments and silos immediately upon arrival to ensure full traceability. The Minister emphasized that the state will not compromise on food safety and that the BFSA is actively conducting inspections on meat and other food products within the retail network to maintain high standards.
