Bulgaria imposes temporary truck bans on Trakia and Struma highways
The Bulgarian Road Infrastructure Agency announced temporary bans on trucks over 12 tonnes on the Trakia (A1) and Struma (A3) motorways, as well as the Kresna pass, for the peak travel days of Friday, 17 July (16:00‑23:00) and Sunday, 19 July (15:30‑22:00). The measures aim to reduce accident risk and ease holiday traffic toward the Black Sea coast and Greece.
Exemptions include buses, vehicles carrying hazardous or temperature‑controlled goods, live animals, rapid‑spoilage food and emergency or road‑maintenance trucks. An alternative route via the I‑6 Podbalkan road is provided for trucks traveling to and from Burgas, while a reversible lane scheme at the Simitli‑Kresna section will allocate two lanes in one direction and one lane in the opposite direction, swapping the arrangement between the two days.
