Bulgaria launches joint border police campaign for summer traffic safety

The Bulgarian National Police, together with Serbian road police, carried out a safety campaign at the Kalotina border crossing. Officers handed out leaflets urging drivers to take regular breaks, avoid fatigue, and comply with speed, alcohol and drug limits during the busy summer travel period.

In August and September, mixed teams of Bulgarian and Romanian road‑police officers will conduct joint checks in the Ruse region and Gyurgovo district, focusing on risky behaviours such as improper overtaking, speeding, driving under the influence and lack of safety systems. The operations will target main routes, including the Danube Bridge, and will verify driver documents, vehicle insurance and technical condition. The initiatives aim to improve road safety for travelers heading to Greece, Turkey and other EU destinations.
