Bulgaria launches nationwide preventive health screening campaigns

Various medical institutions across Bulgaria are launching preventive health campaigns throughout September 2026.

As part of the National Program for Tuberculosis Prevention 2026–2030, a ‘Week of Open Doors’ is being held to provide free tuberculosis screenings. These services are available to all citizens, including those without health insurance, and do not require a referral from a general practitioner. Key locations for these screenings include UMBAL ‘St. Georgi’ in Plovdiv, the Shumen Multiprofile Hospital in Novi Pazar, and regional hospitals in Smolyan, Montana, and Yambol. The screenings involve risk assessments via questionnaires and, if necessary, follow-up tests such as Mantoux tests and X-rays.

Additionally, the Bistrev Group Medical-Dental Center in Sofia is offering free dental examinations for children and adolescents up to 18 years of age until the end of September. These checkups aim to assess oral health, identify risk factors, and provide guidance for prevention, addressing high rates of dental caries among Bulgarian youth.
