Bulgaria responds to drone explosion with calls for defense industry support
Following the explosion of a drone near Kardam, Bulgarian President Iliana Iotova has called for increased state support for the domestic production of drones and anti-drone systems to address security vulnerabilities.
President Iotova proposed organizing a meeting of Black Sea regional states, excluding Russia, to discuss the protection of maritime routes and economic security. She noted that the Bulgarian defense chief is in constant coordination with security services and is maintaining contact with partners in Romania and Ukraine to clarify the circumstances of the incident.
Boyko Borisov, leader of the GERB party, also emphasized the need for urgent investment in Bulgaria's military industry. He pointed out that the country possesses several factories capable of producing unmanned aerial vehicles and countermeasures, suggesting that the state should provide financial support to strengthen these existing capabilities.
