Bulgaria celebrates National Awakeners' Day with nationwide events

Various cities across Bulgaria are hosting cultural, educational, and commemorative events to mark the National Awakeners' Day on November 1.

In Svishtov, celebrations include an official ceremony at the Monument of the Donors, photographic exhibitions, and a scientific conference in Oresh dedicated to Bishop Philip Stanislavov and his 1651 work, ‘Abagar’. Plovdiv will host a large-scale concert at the Roman Stadium featuring folklore groups, choirs, and dance ensembles to honor the holiday and the 170th anniversary of the community center movement.

In Pleven, a ceremony will award the ‘Academician Yordan Trifonov’ humanitarian prize for 2026. Sofia's celebrations include musical-poetic evenings, lectures on fashion history, and a torchlight procession in the Lyulin district. Additionally, the media group NOVA is supporting the holiday through its ‘Budnina’ initiative, which includes donating books to schools in Vratsa to support local libraries.
