Bulgaria: Medical helicopter rescues hiker with lung collapse

A mountain rescue operation was conducted in the Stara Planina mountains near the Rai hut to assist a hiker suffering from a lung collapse, medically known as a pneumothorax.

Due to the severity of the condition, which can cause intense chest pain and shortness of breath, a medical helicopter was deployed to evacuate the individual. The patient was transported to a hospital in Plovdiv. The specific cause of the collapse and the current medical status of the hiker have not been disclosed.

Mountain Rescue Service officials noted that while weather conditions in the mountains remain generally favorable, tourists should always prepare according to their physical capabilities, chosen routes, and necessary equipment. They emphasized that in the event of a medical emergency, calling 112 immediately is critical.
