Bulgaria Ministry of Education announces 2026/2027 school calendar

The Bulgarian Ministry of Education and Science has finalized the school calendar for the 2026/2027 academic year, which is set to begin on September 15. Following public discussions with parents and teachers, the ministry introduced two extended spring breaks to provide better rest for students.

Students in grades 1 through 11 will benefit from a nine-day break from April 3 to April 11, and a ten-day break from April 30 to May 9. The latter is achieved by designating May 5 and May 7 as non-school days, merging holidays around Easter and St. George's Day. Additionally, May 25 will remain a non-school day, creating a four-day break in late May.

The schedule for 12th-grade students differs to accommodate state graduation exams. Their spring break will be shorter, running from April 8 to April 11, and they will attend school on May 5 and May 7. Consequently, the school year for seniors will conclude early on May 13.

To maintain the legally required number of school days, the end of the academic year for other grades will be shifted by two days. Students in grades 1-3 will finish on June 2, grades 4-6 on June 16, and grades 7-11 on July 2. National external assessments for 7th and 10th grades have also been rescheduled to June 18 and June 21.
