Bulgaria Ministry of Interior secures upcoming presidential elections

The Bulgarian Ministry of Interior is conducting specialized police operations to ensure the legality and freedom of the upcoming presidential and vice-presidential elections scheduled for October 25.

As of October 5, authorities have received four reports of election law violations via a dedicated hotline, two of which concerned vote buying. Police investigations into these reports found no evidence of a crime in three of the cases. Since September 28, 62 specialized operations have been carried out nationwide, resulting in one pre-trial proceeding and 56 warning protocols.

Law enforcement has inspected 419 facilities related to election preparation and production, including one printing house. To address identified discrepancies, 31 written orders were issued. Additionally, logistics centers housing machine voting devices and printed materials remain under police protection. In the period from September 25 to October 1, identity document units processed over 13,000 ID card applications and issued more than 14,000 documents.
