Bulgaria: No disciplinary proceedings found against Supreme Judicial Council candidates

A review by the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) in Bulgaria has revealed that none of the judicial candidates from the parliamentary quota are currently subject to disciplinary proceedings related to three high-profile cases: ‘Martin Bozhanov – The Notary’, ‘The Eight Dwarfs’, and ‘Krasimir Georgiev – Krasyo the Black’.

This information was provided by the commission responsible for disciplinary activity and interaction with the Inspectorate to the SJC Judicial College. The inquiry was initiated following a request from the National Assembly’s Legal Affairs Committee, which is investigating the professional qualities and integrity of the candidates for the new SJC composition.

While no formal disciplinary proceedings have been opened against these specific candidates regarding these cases, the investigation aims to determine if they appear in any materials or inspections related to the incidents. The SJC Judicial College has set a deadline of October 19, 2026, to finalize the collected data and decide on its submission to the parliamentary legal committee.
