Bulgaria pension expenditures reach €6.5 billion in first half of 2026

The National Social Security Institute reported that pension expenditures in Bulgaria reached €6.496 billion for the first half of 2026, representing a 10.2% increase compared to the same period in 2025.

As of June 2026, the total number of pensioners stood at 2,069,079, an increase of 12,701 people from the previous year. The average monthly pension was recorded at €517.08, which is an 8.9% increase (€42.34) over June 2025.

The consolidated state social security budget saw total revenues of €4.1055 billion, up 10.9% year-on-year, while total expenditures rose by 9.7% to €7.2804 billion. Net transfers for the consolidated budget amounted to €3.1783 billion.
