Bulgaria: PM Radev pledges timely 2027 budget and education reforms

Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev has announced that the 2027 budget will be adopted on schedule to ensure national financial stability. Speaking at the start of the new parliamentary season, Radev emphasized that the country is returning to a normal political cycle following a period of instability, particularly noting the impact of Progressive Bulgaria joining the Council of Ministers.

The Prime Minister also addressed the critical state of the national education system. Citing recent PISA test results, which placed Bulgaria last in the EU for mathematics and reading, Radev warned that current trends threaten future economic competitiveness and living standards.

To combat this, the government is discussing a shift away from the current 'money follows the student' model. The proposed reform aims to move from a system focused on student quantity and graduation rates toward one centered on educational quality, discipline, and character building.
