Bulgaria positions Sofia as leading candidate to host Eurovision 2027

After Bulgaria’s first‑ever victory at Eurovision 2026, the country has begun preparations for the 71st edition in 2027. Government officials highlight Sofia as the most realistic host city because it offers the largest venue – the modern Arena 8888, which can accommodate up to 18,000 spectators – along with extensive transport links, hotel capacity and experience from previous productions.

Deputy Prime Minister Ivo Hristov told national TV that “Eurovision is a huge opportunity for promoting Bulgaria and boosting tourism and the economy.” The expected cost of organising the event is estimated at €20‑30 million, with anticipated positive economic effects.

While Sofia leads the bid, the culture ministry notes that Plovdiv, Varna and Burgas have also expressed interest, citing their historic sites, seaside resorts and festival infrastructure. Minister of Culture Evti Milosev said “Sofia has the biggest organisational capacity, but the interest from other cities is serious and ambitious.” The final decision on the host city has not yet been made.
