Bulgaria proposes state honors for repatriation of Tsar Samuel's remains
The Bulgarian Council of Ministers has proposed that President Rumen Radev award state honors to three individuals for their roles in the repatriation of the remains of Bulgarian monarchs from Greece.
Archaeologists Prof. Dr. Lyudmil Vagalinski and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Boni Petrunova have been nominated for the ‘St. Cyril and Methodius’ order for their significant contributions to cultural and historical heritage. Their scientific research and negotiations were instrumental in the return of the remains of Tsar Samuel, Ivan Vladislav, Gavril Radomir, and his children.
Additionally, Valentin Poryazov, the former Bulgarian Ambassador to Greece, has been proposed for the ‘Stara Planina’ order, first degree. The government cited his crucial diplomatic role in finalizing the negotiations. The repatriation is described as a nationally significant event achieved through decades of scientific effort and Bulgarian-Greek cooperation.
