Bulgarian prosecutors elect four members to Supreme Judicial Council

Following a two-day election process, Bulgarian prosecutors have selected four representatives for the Supreme Judicial Council (VSS) from the prosecutor quota. Because no single candidate secured more than half of the valid votes during the initial round, the final selection was determined by the four candidates receiving the highest support under the Law on the Judiciary.

The elected members are: • Plamen Petkov (Sofia District Prosecutor) with 556 votes • Ivaylo Iliev (Kyustendil District Prosecutor) with 496 votes • Ivaylo Angelov (Sofia Appellate Prosecutor) with 491 votes • Krasimira Filipova (Supreme Cassation Prosecutor) with 442 votes

A total of 1,313 prosecutors participated in the second round of voting. The election results are subject to a seven-day appeal period before they become final.

Separately, in the Ruse region, the presidential and vice-presidential election concluded without significant violations. While voting proceeded normally, technical issues with voting machines in the villages of Shtarklevo and Sandrovo necessitated the use of paper ballots. The Regional Election Commission reported four complaints, including concerns regarding voter secrecy and media access, though investigations did not confirm violations.
