Bulgaria raises pensions 7.8% as updated payments begin in July 2026

From July 7 to July 20, 2026, pensioners receiving benefits through post offices will receive their updated payments, while those paid by bank transfer will see the funds in their accounts immediately. The increase, applied under the so‑called “Swiss rule,” raises all occupational pensions granted up to the end of 2025 by 7.8%, matching the rise in the minimum basic pension from €322.37 to €347.51.

The same percentage boost applies to widow’s allowances, disability pensions, and other derived minimum amounts. The social old‑age pension also rises by 7.8% to €183.81 per month. Starting July 1, 2026, the pandemic‑era COVID add‑on of €30.68 will no longer be included in new labor‑related pensions. The 2026 state social security budget earmarks €13.5 billion for pensions and supplements, representing 10.8% of projected GDP and a €1.179 billion increase over 2025. The average pension is expected to reach €543.46 in 2026.
