Bulgaria records over €13 million in online local tax payments in first half of 2026

The Bulgarian Ministry of Innovation and Digital Transformation reported that more than €13 million in local taxes and fees were paid online through the Central Virtual POS of the e‑Government portal during the first six months of 2026. This amount equals the total collected for the whole of 2025 and exceeds the €7 million recorded in 2024. About 70% of the payments came from four municipalities—Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna and Burgas—with Sofia alone accounting for roughly 48% of the total.

In the same period, electronic payments for police fines, penalty notices and other MVR tickets exceeded €6 million, up from over €5 million in the comparable period of 2025. The data indicate a rapid adoption of electronic services for both checking and settling municipal obligations, reducing the need for in‑person visits to municipal offices.
