Bulgaria reports rise in road fatalities following 17 serious accidents

Bulgaria has reported a significant increase in road fatalities compared to the previous year. According to the Ministry of Interior, 17 serious traffic accidents occurred within a single 24-hour period, resulting in four deaths and 23 injuries.

Statistical data indicates that 31 people have died in traffic accidents since the beginning of the month. For the full year of 2026, the total number of fatalities has reached 304, representing an increase of 29 deaths compared to the same period in 2025.

In a separate incident in Ruse, a Turkish-registered Mercedes truck veered off the road at the intersection of Bulgaria Boulevard and Hristo Botev Boulevard after the driver failed to adjust speed for a curve. While the accident caused material damage and temporarily halted traffic, no injuries were reported.
