Bulgaria reports rise in road fatalities for 2026

Bulgaria has seen a significant increase in road fatalities in 2026 compared to the previous year. According to Ministry of Interior data, 388 people have died in traffic accidents from the beginning of 2026 through October 9, which is 52 more deaths than during the same period in 2025.

In a single 24-hour period, three people died and 36 were injured in 27 serious accidents across the country. One notable incident involved a head-on collision between two cars near the villages of Sadyevo and Mirolyubovo, resulting in the deaths of a 20-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman.

Total injuries for the year have reached 6,692. While the National Statistical Institute provides finalized data on external causes of death—including suicides and accidents—with a delay, current trends indicate a rise in road-related mortality.
