Bulgaria reports two major incidents of extreme drunk driving

Bulgarian authorities have reported two significant incidents involving drivers operating vehicles under high levels of alcohol intoxication.

In Svilengrad, a 42-year-old man was charged after being caught driving with 3.97 per mille of alcohol in his system. The driver, who had registered a newly purchased Volkswagen on the same day, refused to provide a blood sample after a breathalyzer test. The vehicle has been confiscated and its registration terminated.

In Vidin, a 52-year-old professional driver from Nedelino caused significant damage at a roadside complex while driving a heavy truck with a 3.62 per mille alcohol concentration. The driver lost control of the vehicle, crashing through a fence and into a fuel station canopy. The individual refused a medical blood test and faces potential heavy fines, loss of driving privileges, and the requirement to pay the full monetary equivalent of the truck and semi-trailer to the state.
