Bulgaria restructures Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works

The Bulgarian government has approved changes to the organizational regulations of the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works (MRDPW) to optimize its structure and refine the functions of its administrative units.

The restructuring includes a reduction in staff, decreasing the total number of employees from 627 to 588. Additionally, the number of directorates within the general administration will be reduced from six to five.

Key changes involve merging functionally related activities into single structural units. For instance, the former Legal and Public Procurement directorates will be merged into a single Legal Activities directorate, which will handle legal functions, procedural representation, and the public procurement process.

The reorganization also includes the closure of the Network and Information Security Unit, with its responsibilities being absorbed by the Information Services and Security Systems directorate. Furthermore, functions related to administrative-territorial organization and local self-government will transition to the General Directorate of Civil Registration and Administrative Services (GRAO).
