Rumen Radev outlines anti-corruption and economic reform strategy
Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev has outlined a dual-pillar governance strategy focused on dismantling the oligarchic model and accelerating economic development. Speaking at an American Chamber of Commerce event, Radev stated that while the government has successfully removed the oligarchy from direct political power, the fight to prevent their influence over public resources continues. Current efforts include auditing compromised public procurement processes and collaborating with international agencies to track illegal assets and activities of Bulgarian citizens abroad.
On the economic front, Radev announced a shift away from a model based on low wages and high consumption toward a high-productivity economy driven by innovation and aggressive investment attraction. Key priorities include infrastructure projects through public-private partnerships, energy security—specifically involving American technologies like Westinghouse reactors and LNG—and high-tech sectors such as artificial intelligence, data centers, and semiconductor manufacturing.
Additionally, Bulgaria is seeking to deepen its strategic partnership with the United States. Foreign Minister Vesela Petrova has engaged with U.S. officials to translate the alliance into concrete results regarding security, defense modernization, and economic cooperation.
