Bulgaria Secures Four Medals at International Chemistry Olympiad in Tashkent

Bulgarian students won a gold, a silver and two bronze medals at the 58th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan from 10 to 19 July. The gold was claimed by Damyan Ivanov (11th grade, Sofia Mathematics High School), the silver by Stoian Milev (11th grade, SMG), and bronze medals went to Denislav Stoyanov (12th grade, Geo Milev High School, Stara Zagora) and Borislav Hristov (12th grade, Academic S. P. Kirov High School, Blagoevgrad). Coaches for the team were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Donka Tashova and Svetoslav Anachkov of Sofia University. Ivanov became the fourth Bulgarian to win two IChO gold medals, joining Victor Lilov, Peter Hristov and Tomislav Gunchov, and is the only one to achieve this before the 12th grade. The competition featured 320 participants from 84 nations, with Bulgaria adding to its cumulative tally of 127 IChO medals (15 gold, 29 silver, 83 bronze).
