Bulgaria shows improved life satisfaction despite labor market pessimism

Data from Gallup, presented at the Global Innovation Summit 2026 in Sofia, reveals that Bulgarian citizens have seen significant improvements in how they assess their personal lives over the last two decades. However, the country remains among the least optimistic in Southeast Europe regarding job opportunities and continues to face high perceptions of corruption.

The study compared Bulgaria with nine other nations, including Albania, Greece, Romania, and Serbia, evaluating competitiveness through public services, institutions, and quality of life. While satisfaction with public services is mid-range for the region, Bulgaria recorded the lowest optimism regarding the labor market among the surveyed countries. Analysts noted that these findings reflect citizen perceptions rather than official economic statistics, emphasizing the human factor as a critical component of economic competitiveness.
