Bulgaria Supreme Judicial Council election sees 20 candidates for 6 seats

The nomination process for the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) in Bulgaria is underway, with 20 candidates now vying for six seats in the judicial quota. The candidates include a mix of high-ranking officials and regular magistrates, such as several supreme court judges and various district and administrative court presidents.

Political and civil society actors are actively participating in the selection. The political party ‘Yes, Bulgaria’ has nominated Andrey Yankulov, Tanya Radulovska-Madamzhieva, and Emil Dechev, with Yankulov and Radulovska receiving support from seven non-governmental organizations.

Additional individual nominations have been submitted, including Yavor Kolev, a judge at the Supreme Administrative Court, who is supported by a wide range of judicial colleagues. The election schedule is set for late October and November, covering prosecutors, judges, and investigators.
