Bulgaria to mark Independence Day with ceremonies in Veliko Tarnovo and Burgas

Bulgaria will observe its Independence Day on September 22 with various commemorative programs in Veliko Tarnovo and Burgas. The celebrations honor the 1908 declaration of independence by Prince Ferdinand I, which ended the country's vassalage to the Ottoman Empire.

In Veliko Tarnovo, the historical site where independence was proclaimed, festivities include a holy liturgy at the ‘St. 40 Martyrs’ Church, military rituals at the National Military University ‘Vasil Levski’, and wreath-laying ceremonies at the Pyramid of Independence. The program features a parade, folklore performances, and an audio-visual spectacle titled ‘Tsarevgrad Tarnov – Sound and Light’ at the Tsarevets Fortress.

In Burgas, official ceremonies will take place at Atanas Sirekov Square, including the raising of the national and European Union flags and a festive prayer. The city will also hold a memorial service at the Monument of the 24th Black Sea Infantry Regiment to honor those who fought for the nation's freedom, followed by a folk music concert.
