Bulgaria to recall ambassador to UAE amid corruption allegations

The Bulgarian government is set to propose the recall of Ambassador Ivan Yordanov to the United Arab Emirates. Foreign Minister Velislava Petrova submitted the proposal following a request from the Prime Minister.

The move follows reports from the Ministry of Interior alleging that a company owned by the ambassador's father was involved in a scheme to divert state funds to pay for private flights for DPS leader Delyan Peevski. While Ambassador Yordanov has denied the allegations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has ordered an investigation into the operations of the Bulgarian embassy in the UAE.

If approved by the cabinet, the decision will be forwarded to the President for a formal decree. In a separate matter, the cabinet is also reviewing additional budget transfers for municipalities to subsidize unprofitable bus lines and plans for a national automated information system for electric vehicles.
