Bulgaria tourism hit by reputation concerns and rising travel costs

Bulgarian tourism is facing a reputational challenge as Greek media criticize recent border delays and other issues that could divert visitors toward Albania or Bulgaria. Industry groups warn that these concerns, combined with increased travel expenses, are leading to missed overnight stays, cancelled programmes and financial losses for hotels, restaurants and related businesses.

At the same time, Bulgarian travellers are seeking the cheapest way to reach the Black Sea. Train tickets from Sofia to Burgas cost about €12.50 one‑way, while bus fares range from €18 to €45 for round trips, and flights exceed €120. Driving a car can be economical if costs are shared among several passengers, but fuel prices have risen to €1.55 per litre for gasoline and €1.73 for diesel.
