Bulgaria urges treatment for citizen Iva Mihaylova denied in North Macedonia
On 7 August the Basic Court in Kocani, North Macedonia, issued another denial of Iva Mihaylova’s request to receive the necessary medical treatment for a severe neurological condition. The treatment is unavailable in North Macedonia and must be provided abroad to avoid permanent disability.
The Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed serious concern, invoking the European Convention on Human Rights and emphasizing the right to life and protection against inhuman treatment. It warned that the denial undermines North Macedonia’s EU accession progress and pledged to use all international mechanisms to secure timely and adequate care for Mihaylova, reaffirming Bulgaria’s support for its citizens abroad.
