Bulgaria wholesale food prices decline as tomato costs drop
Wholesale food prices in Bulgaria are trending downward, according to the latest weekly bulletin from the State Commission for Commodity Exchanges and Marketplaces. The wholesale food price index fell by 1.21%, dropping to 2.292 points from 2.320 points the previous week.
Vegetables saw significant price drops, led by tomatoes, which fell by 28.01% to 0.91 euro per kilogram. Red peppers also decreased by 17.52% to 1.29 euro per kilogram, while lettuce prices dropped by 12.70% to 0.66 euro per kilogram. Other declines were noted in potatoes, carrots, and cabbage. However, green peppers, cucumbers, and mature onions experienced price increases.
In the fruit category, most prices declined, including apricots, apples, and lemons. Peaches were the exception, with prices rising by 5.18% to 1.26 euro per kilogram.
Dairy and staple goods showed mixed results. Cow butter prices rose by 6.59% to 1.52 euro per 125g pack, and cow cheese increased by 1.07%. Conversely, yogurt prices fell by 1.10%, while fresh milk prices remained stable at 1.15 euro per liter. Frozen chicken meat also saw a price decrease of 2.71%.
