Bulgarian and Romanian Passports Rank 11th in Global Travel Freedom
The Henley Passport Index 2026 places both the Bulgarian and Romanian passports at 11th position worldwide, granting their holders visa‑free or visa‑on‑arrival access to 178 destinations. They share this rank with each other, just behind the United States passport, which ranks 10th with access to 180 destinations.
The ranking, based on data from the International Air Transport Association, notes that Romania has risen sharply from a 34th place in 2006, while Bulgaria has also moved up from 29th in the same year. Singapore tops the list with 193 visa‑free destinations, followed by Japan and South Korea.
