Bulgarian Anti-Corruption Commission to inherit 300-400 old cases

The newly formed Anti-Corruption Commission in Bulgaria is set to inherit between 300 and 400 old pre-trial proceedings, according to unofficial data shared by Commission Chairman Plamen Todorov. While the State Agency for National Security has prepared the necessary materials and inventories, the transfer of these files cannot occur until the commission's relevant directorates are appointed and staffed.

Todorov noted that the commission is currently in an organizational and administrative phase, stating that the new members are “literally starting from scratch.” Although the commission's website and official email receive signals almost daily, they cannot be processed at this time and are being redirected to other competent authorities.

Commission member Mariana Shoteva stated that the appointment of administration will follow the publication of the body's organizational regulations in the State Gazette. The commission, which took office on August 3, 2026, currently operates with four members—Plamen Todorov, Pavel Gaidarov, Mariana Shoteva, and Milen Shopov—as the Supreme Court did not elect a candidate for the fifth quota.
