Bulgarian Army begins World War I mobilization

On September 11, 1915, the Bulgarian army began mobilization for participation in World War I. Following the decision by Vasil Radoslavov's government to align Bulgaria with the Central Powers, Prince Ferdinand issued a decree for mobilization to protect against 'possible surprises.'

The mobilization process took place between September 11 and September 30, 1915. While the decision faced opposition and sparked anti-war protests and riots, such as the revolt of the 27th Chepin Regiment, the military forces remained under the command of General Nikola Zhekov.

Approximately 685,000 soldiers were initially mobilized, with total wartime numbers reaching between 900,000 and 950,000. This represented roughly 20% of the population of the Kingdom of Bulgaria, creating significant logistical and economic challenges for the state. The military was organized into 11 divisions, primarily concentrated along the Serbian and Greek borders, with some forces directed toward Romania.
