Bulgarian athletes achieve success in European volleyball and handball

Bulgarian athletes have secured notable results across various European sports competitions. In German volleyball, Damyan Kolev and his new club, Baroc Volleys MTV (Ludwigsburg), secured a 3-0 victory against TV Rottenburg in the Bundesliga. Additionally, Tsvetelina Ilieva earned MVP honors after scoring 26 points to lead Ladies in Black (Aachen) to a dramatic 3-2 comeback win against Scurius Volleys (Borken).

In Italian women's volleyball, Gianlorenzo Blendiagini continues his undefeated streak as the coach of Numia Vero Volley (Milan). The team maintained a perfect 5-0 record following a 3-0 victory over Laica Chocolato Uib (Busto Arsizio), led by Paola Egonu's 25 points.

In handball, the Bulgarian women's national team drew 27-27 against Italy in an away match during the first round of the 2027 World Championship qualifiers. Despite a strong second-half comeback led by Lidia Kovacheva, who scored 12 goals, the draw was insufficient to advance the team in the competition.
