Bulgarian athletes compete in weightlifting and taekwondo championships

Five Bulgarian weightlifters are set to compete at the 2026 World Weightlifting Championships in China. The delegation includes Angel Rusev and Deniz Danev in the men's 60 kg category, Ivan Dimov in the 65 kg category, Carlos Nasar in the 95 kg category, and Hristo Hristov in the 110 kg category. Olympic and three-time world champion Carlos Nasar aims for his fourth world title, despite recent training difficulties caused by a burst vein. His primary challenger is Iran's Ali Alipour.

In taekwondo, Bulgarian athlete Hristiyan Georgiev secured a gold medal in the under 54 kg category at the Qatar Open G1, despite competing with a leg fracture. This victory qualifies him for the Grand Prix series finals in Astana, Kazakhstan, and provides a pathway toward the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Additionally, Omid Hosseini earned a bronze medal at the same tournament. Both athletes are scheduled to compete in the Romania Open following their success in Qatar.
