Bulgarian Audit Office probes MP Delian Peevski's private jet flights
The State Audit Office of Bulgaria (Smetnata Palata) has opened a procedure to examine a possible conflict of interest involving MP Delian Peevski, leader of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS). The investigation was triggered by a signal submitted on 31 July 2026 by Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev, alleging discrepancies between Peevski’s declared assets and his lifestyle, particularly payments for private jet flights to foreign destinations such as Dubai.
The audit will cover the previous three years and will assess whether the flights were financed by third parties, gifts, or public funds, potentially circumventing sanctions imposed under the global Magnitsky regime. Peevski claims the trips were funded by his family. The audit must issue a motivated decision within three months, with a possible extension, and DPS has declined to comment on the case.
