Plovdiv authorities crack down on Blood and Honour neo-Nazi group

Authorities in Plovdiv have conducted an operation against members of the international neo-Nazi organization ‘Blood and Honour’. Following the crackdown, several individuals were detained, though only one remains in custody. The charges against the group include inciting discrimination, hatred, and violence based on race, nationality, or sexual orientation.

The investigation is linked to a recent assault on two Nepalese citizens in central Plovdiv. The prosecutor has requested the arrest of 18-year-old Teodor Velev, who was previously released on a 700 euro bail for causing light bodily harm. A 17-year-old accomplice remains under supervision.

National security expert Professor Nikolay Radulov noted that while neo-Nazi ideologies attract youth, it is difficult to legally prove ideological propaganda. He emphasized that proving such activity requires evidence of active indoctrination rather than just the possession of extremist literature. Experts suggested that the recent media attention may create a perception of a larger surge in these groups than is actually occurring, noting that radicalized youth groups and neo-Nazi groups are distinct phenomena.
