Bulgarian Border Police conduct Black Sea rescue operations

The Bulgarian Border Police are conducting emergency rescue operations in the Black Sea following reports of distressed sailors. Chief Commissioner Anton Zlatanov stated that teams are responding 24/7 to protect both territorial waters and personnel.

During an emergency briefing, Zlatanov noted that while coastal waters appeared calm, the area of the incident experienced wave heights exceeding 4 on the Beaufort scale. This rough sea condition has made rescue maneuvers risky. Following a second distress signal, teams were deployed immediately to assist sailors reported to be clinging to debris. The primary focus remains the preservation of human life, with coordinated decision-making involving the Prime Minister and relevant ministries.

Zlatanov also highlighted ongoing regional cooperation, noting that Bulgaria works with Romania to guard the external European border and maintains partnerships with Turkey. A week-long training exercise with Turkish partners has also commenced in the southern Black Sea region.
