Bulgarian businesses seek revision of electricity compensation timelines
Bulgarian businesses are calling on the Council of Ministers to revise the electricity compensation scheme for non-household consumers. The current government decision mandates that compensation payments—intended to cover the difference when average monthly exchange prices exceed 122.71 euros per megawatt-hour—be paid as a single lump sum after the 10-month program ends on June 30, 2027.
This shift from monthly payments to a single end-of-period disbursement affects enterprises, hospitals, schools, and cultural institutions. Dobri Mitrev, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, warned that expected winter energy prices near 175 euros per megawatt-hour are dangerously close to the 180 euro threshold required for interim advance support. He cautioned that the delay in compensation could create a liquidity crisis for businesses forced to cover high immediate costs without timely reimbursement.
