Bulgarian classical music features upcoming performances in Burgas and Sofia

Bulgaria's classical music scene features two significant upcoming performances. On October 16, the Burgas Opera will present the symphonic concert ‘Musical Ikebana’. Guest conductor Nikola Petrov will lead the orchestra alongside prominent soloists from Japan: Kiyoko Sakai (piano), Koji Okazaki (bassoon), and Etsuko Okazaki (piano). The soloists are professors at the Musashino Academy in Tokyo.

On October 18, world-renowned bass-baritone Sir Bryn Terfel will perform with the Sofia Philharmonic under the direction of Maestro Nayden Todorov at the ‘Bulgaria’ Hall. The program includes works ranging from Mozart and Beethoven to Broadway. Terfel has specifically selected scenes from Mussorgsky’s ‘Boris Godunov’ and Rachmaninoff’s ‘Aleko’ as a tribute to the legendary Bulgarian bass Nikolai Gyurov, whose performances originally inspired him.
