Bulgarian customs seize 45 pistols at Kapitan Andreevo border
Customs officers at the Kapitan Andreevo border crossing in Bulgaria have seized 45 firearms and 44 magazines from a truck entering the country from Turkey. The vehicle, driven by a Turkish citizen, was officially transporting fresh figs destined for Germany.
Following a risk analysis, the truck was subjected to X-ray scanning, which revealed unusual densities. A subsequent physical inspection uncovered the pistols hidden in several locations, including the driver's cabin, the front of the vehicle, a side tool compartment on the semi-trailer, and near the battery.
Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated to determine the driver's involvement. Customs officials noted a significant surge in weapon seizures this year, reporting that over 1,640 firearms or components have been intercepted at various border points since the beginning of the year.
