Bulgarian Daycare Teacher Accused of Assaulting Children

A preschool teacher at the Sofia district daycare "Prof. Dr. Ivan Mitev" was recorded hitting, pulling the ears of, and dragging several children across the floor. Video surveillance from one group showed the alleged abuse.

Izgrev district mayor Delian Georgiev reported the incident to the police and the prosecutor’s office after a joint inspection by the district administration and the First Police District, following a parent complaint. He sent a letter to the daycare director demanding the immediate disciplinary dismissal of the teacher and called for action in accordance with labour law. Georgiev said he will personally monitor the case.

The authorities have been asked to complete their investigation promptly.
