Bulgarian Defense Minister criticizes European Parliament drone resolution

Bulgarian Defense Minister Dimitar Stoyanov has characterized the European Parliament’s call for Bulgaria to join a NATO anti-drone initiative as a ‘political attack’ against the current government. Speaking at Chesnegirovo Airport, Stoyanov argued that the resolution is an attempt by political opponents to undermine the administration through international channels.

Stoyanov clarified that Bulgaria has already submitted documentation to join the NATO project following a financial analysis to ensure the state can meet the necessary requirements. He questioned why non-NATO members are attempting to influence Bulgaria’s participation in Alliance projects.

Addressing domestic criticism regarding delays, the Minister noted that the initiative dates back to February 2025, a period when opposing political parties held power and failed to take action.

Additionally, Stoyanov addressed the ongoing investigation into the drone attack on the vessel ‘Chelsea-3’. He stated that military police, intelligence, and prosecutors are conducting the probe and promised that if the attack is linked to a Russian drone or any other state actor, the findings will be made public and condemned.
