Bulgarian deputies review railway transport law changes

Bulgarian deputies are reviewing amendments to the Railway Transport Act aimed at aligning national legislation with European Union regulations. A key component of the proposal is the transition to a centralized registration system for railway vehicles. Under the new rules, the Railway Administration Executive Agency will serve as the designated registering body, responsible for processing applications and updating information within the European Register of Vehicles. This shift is intended to eliminate the need for a separate national register.

The legislative changes also address passenger rights and obligations. The bill proposes updating national laws to match EU regulations and suggests removing specific definitions for ‘persons with disabilities’ and ‘persons with reduced mobility’ from the Railway Transport Act, as these terms are now addressed under the Law on Public Transport.

In addition to the legislative review, the National Assembly will conduct parliamentary control involving four ministers. Ministers are expected to answer questions regarding defense, education, regional development, and environmental issues.
